The VP Credit Risk Manager will manage the group  responsible for evaluating complex multi-dimensional financial, control and operational risks associated with commercial entities engaged in Merchant Acquiring, ACH and Card Issuing Activities sponsored by the bank. This role will focus on new clients and periodic reviews for existing clients by managing departmental processes to ensure adherence to internal policies and procedures as well as compliance and regulatory requirements.  As a member of the Risk Department Management Team, the VP Credit Risk Manager will play a key role in assisting the Director of Risk in the development and execution of the department’s strategic initiatives.

Responsibilities

 

Essential Functions

  1. Interview, hire, set high performance standards, and manage Credit Underwriting and Portfolio Managers.
  2. Evaluates and facilitates training needs to ensure all staff is adequately trained to perform their job functions.
  3. Reviews the content and accuracy of risk reviews submitted by direct reports.
  4. Performs advanced level financial analysis and underwriting for covered business types and enterprise client relationships.
  5. Investigates the merits of applicant profiles to include financial strength, risk control environment and compliance with network rules to quantify an applicant’s alignment with the Bank’s risk appetite.
  6. Compiles advanced level written narratives quantifying financial and operational risk review results with accompanying recommendation to the Director of Risk and/or applicable approval committee.  
  7. Analyzes large sets of portfolio data to identify risk concentrations by customer type, business model, delivery methods and portfolio performance to supplement underwriting activities.
  8. Works closely with new and existing clients to underwrite and manage risk activities supporting diverse client types and business models.
  9. Sets and recommends transactional processing thresholds governed by the unique risk attributes of the client.
  10. Decisions high risk clients within pre-established guidelines and thresholds.
  11. Performs on-site visitations to third party clients to conduct business line audits in conjunction with audits performed by Third Party Risk Management and Financial Crimes Risk Management.
  12. Delivers business line presentations to senior leadership concerning financial risk and transactional processing trends.
  13. Identifies enhancements to monitoring and reporting to effectuate improved oversight and controls. Executes upon areas of improvement and incorporates into departmental policy.
  14. Investigates suspicious transactions or client profile changes to determine the nature and cause of triggers.
  15. Participates in Fintech Solutions leadership team meetings to discuss and implement strategies, initiatives and short and long-term planning for the department.
  16. Contributes to the strategic direction of the business line by assisting in the development and maintenance of policies and procedures.
  17. Maintains a comprehensive understanding of laws and network regulations related to Fintech Solutions activities.
  18. Collaborate with various departments such as Sales, Relationship Management, Project Management, Compliance and Executive Management to implement and execute on departmental projects.
  19. Work directly with the bank’s client base to conduct interviews and investigations necessary to perform financial analysis and portfolio management activities.
  20. Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education/Experience Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree in finance, accounting, related field or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Eight years’ financial statement analysis, commercial underwriting and portfolio management experience.
  • Five years people management experience.

 

Preferred Requirements

  • Ability to read, understand and perform advance level reviews of corporate financial statements, corporate tax returns and business/personal credit reports.
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to compile advance level narratives to quantify financial statement analysis and risk attributes.
  • Possess a strong customer service focus with meticulous attention to detail.
  • Possess strong collaborative and influencing skills.
  • Capacity to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines.
  • Business leadership skills with a demonstrated ability to execute complex projects.
  • Ability to operate in grey areas and to identify solutions based on research and experience.
  • Ability to establish and manage customer relationships.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Extensive knowledge of Payment Brand (Visa/MasterCard and NACHA) rules.
  • Strong technical skills including Microsoft Office Suite, Excel and QuickBase.
  • AML and BSA regulatory compliance subject matter expertise.
  • Ability to travel 5% of the time.
